LEARN FROM TOP LEADERS IN THE GLOBAL ANTI-TRAFFICKING MOVEMENT

Did you know?
Human Trafficking happens everywhere, and the Interstate 5 corridor through the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon is a hotspot in the nation. From labor trafficking, to massage parlors, to child exploitation- our communities are especially vulnerable.

Over 20 million people are trafficked around the world at any moment in time. How it happens might surprise you. Less than 5% of trafficking cases in the US result from kidnapping or abductions.

Human trafficking extends beyond sexual exploitation to labor trafficking in the cannabis industry for example, where migrant workers are treated as slaves. It’s happening every day, causing immeasurable injustice and suffering.

This two-day, deep-dive educational and networking summit is for anyone interested in getting a better understanding of the true realities of human trafficking in Southern Oregon, the nation, and the world.

  •    Over 20 million people are trafficked around the world at any moment in time.
  •    Less than 5% of trafficking cases in the United States result from kidnapping or abductions.
  •    Southern Oregon is a major hotspot in the nation. It’s a crisis happening every day in our communities.

What can we do about it?
Let’s come together as a community to learn how to support our vulnerable populations at risk of being trafficked. Hear from local survivors and national leaders, and engage with the many local agencies and organizations exhibiting their services.

This unique, second-annual event brings together another panel of passionate and inspiring experts and activists to learn and deploy strategies to combat trafficking and support survivors. Learn tools and skills to spot what trafficking looks like and discover surprising solutions to rid our communities of these terrible, urgent, and fundamental dangers.

Get inspired and get involved! Attend this groundbreaking summit to equip yourself with the facts and the strategies. Be part of a solution to protect communities from the horrors of trafficking!

“By coming together, we can disrupt the cycle of human trafficking and create a safer, more just society for all. This unique event is critical in raising awareness and mobilizing action to address this troubling meta-issue in our society.”

Zoe Christine Bellatorre is a subject matter expert in familial trafficking with over 10 years experience in the field. She has earned a Masters in Intercultural Studies with Children at Risk, and a Bachelors in Education. She holds lived experience in familial trafficking being trafficked by her father and grandfather beginning at age 2 into early adulthood. “The trafficking was normalized within the familial culture; many of the perpatrators (buyers) were in a network known to my family. I never went missing, so there were no alerts or law enforcement intervention, the traffickers were within my immediate family.  No one ever intervened and I was never helped.” I desire to change this for those being exploited now, addressing systems and methods for child trafficking response. Tomas Perez began engaging in the anti-trafficking fight in 2010 and quickly noticed that while men are the primary drivers behind the demand that drives sex trafficking, very few were practically involved in effective efforts to abolish it. His vision to create meaningful onramps for men to engage in this issue has resulted in the training, equipping, and support of hundreds of volunteer men across 20 cities in North America. Cristina Petrone
JacksonCountyCasa.org

I am Cristina Petrone, a mother of two beautiful school-aged boys and a person who has always been passionate about children. My desire to help children in the foster care system was ignited the same day. I closed a big account in pathology sales 13 years ago. Despite the joy that should have come with this success, I asked myself what I was doing in a profession that felt so spiritually depleting. It was then I saw the sign next door, “CASA.” I immediately knew that was where I was needed most. At the time, I did not know I was pregnant, so my desire to be a CASA was put on hold. Three years later, my family and I decided to foster and welcomed our first children in foster care. We fostered for the next 2.5 years. My desire to work for CASA grew steadily after having a Co- CASA couple assigned to our case. I will never forget the impact they had on our foster child, and his family, and the ongoing support they gave us. In August of 2020, my dream to work for CASA was realized. I have a Master’s degree in teaching and a decade of teaching at colleges here and abroad. I have advocated for neglected and abused children for the last eight years and cannot imagine doing anything else. I am truly honored to be a part of the CASA community, a “voice” for the child.
